Judge Adam and Theresa Thao Scholarship

Judge Adam Yang and Theresa Thao
Adam and Theresa are passionate about helping people. Theresa, while as a child, knew that she wanted to be a teacher because of the teachers that made a difference in her life. She now continues that dream to teach the young. She has been a teacher for over 14 years. Adam pursued his law career because he believes in helping those from underprivileged backgrounds and he is passionate about advocating for those in need. Prior to Adam being a judge in the 2nd Judicial District, Ramsey County, he was an attorney with the Hennepin County Public Defender’s Office. Adam was an attorney for almost 20 years before becoming a judge.
Adam and Theresa wish to continue their service to the community by providing scholarship to incoming college freshmen who wishes to become teachers and or lawyers.
This scholarship is presented by the Hmong American Education Fund and donated by ABCS Home Care Inc. The scholarship seeks to financially support one dedicated Hmong-American student in the pursuit of his/her higher educational goals. The successful applicants will be awarded up to $1000.00 to the choice of his/her college or university.
Scholarship Selection Criteria and Eligibility
Any person of Hmong descent pursuing an education to better themselves and others.
A U.S. citizen or legal resident alien.
A Minnesota resident.
Students who are pursuing or wanting to become a teacher or lawyer.
A high school senior or has earned a high school diploma or GED and has been accepted fulltime or part-time to a public or private accredited 4-year college/university for the Fall 2023 – 2024 academic year.
Has a minimum GPA of 3.0 in a 4.0 scale system.
